What is AL2?
Ladok uses SWAMID, Swedish Academic Identity Federation, for logging in to the system. SWAMID is an identity federation run by Sunet and includes most universities, research institutes, and other authorities related to the Swedish research and education sector.
SWAMID provides three confidence levels to describe how well the identity issuer knows the identity of the user:
SWAMID Identity Assurance Level 1 (SWAMID AL1) – Unverified user
SWAMID Identity Assurance Level 2 (SWAMID AL2) – Confirmed User
SWAMID Identity Assurance Level 3 (SWAMID AL3) – Verified User
Why AL2?
Ladok is an important system for students. According to Swedish data protection legislation, personal data must be protected against unauthorized access. Anything that leads to unauthorized access or alteration of student information in Ladok leads to personal data incidents. An unauthorized person who gains access to a student's login can, among other things, interrupt the course and deregister the student from the exam, as well as view and change certain personal data such as study details, postal addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers.
To ensure that it is the right person who logs into Ladok, we require users to log in with confirmed user accounts, which in turn requires identification of the individual for example, when resetting passwords.
Who needs to verify for AL2?
From 2024-01-01, SWAMID AL2 is required for students with a Swedish social security number (Personnummer).
Students without a Swedish social security number have a so-called interim social security number (also known as T-number or R-number) in Ladok. The requirement for AL2 does not include these students. They and can log into Ladok with AL1 accounts (AL1 is the level that is set automatically when creating an account at Högskolan Väst).
What do I as an international student have to do when I change from a T-number to a Personal number?
If you receive a Swedish social security number during your studies and then the university asks you to change your social security number in Ladok, you must confirm your user account in order to continue to have access to Ladok.
How do I confirm my account for AL2?
You confirm your account using BankID. To get a BankID, you must:
• have a Swedish social security number. The banks have chosen to build the system around social security numbers and currently there is no possibility to get a bank ID if you don't have it.
• be a customer of one of the banks that issue bank IDs
• be over 18 years of age
You can also visit the Service Center and show your Swedish Social Security Number together with an ID card or passport (identification with a Swedish social security number). You will then receive a code and can then confirm your account.
