Degree certificate

Students who have completed a Programme at University West and have fulfilled the requirements can apply for a Degree Certificate. In Sweden, the Degree Certificate for your programme is not issued automatically when you have completed the studies.

Prior to filling out your application, check your Transcript of Records to make sure that all courses required for the degree are registered with the final mark. If information is missing you must contact the responsible department. An incomplete application will delay the process.

The processing of your application begins when all information is completed. The Degree Certificate will be issued approximately within two months, depending on work load.

NEW: DIGITAL DEGREE CERTIFICATES

From 1 March 2024, University West will issue digital degree certificates at first and second cycle degree. You need to apply for a degree certificate yourself – it is not issued automatically. A digital degree certificate contains the same information as a degree certificate on paper. Once the degree certificate has been issued, you will be notified by e-mail. Therefore, remember to double-check which e-mail address you have registered in Ladok.

What does digital degree certificate mean?

Your digital degree certificate is always available: you can download it in Ladok for students or Ladok for alumni (if you are no longer an active student and do not have a student account) at any time. This avoids paper copies, certification and scanning. The degree certificate is a PDF file that is e-stamped. The e-stamp means that the document cannot be changed after it has been retrieved from Ladok. If you or someone else want to verify your degree certificate, you can upload the document on Ladok's page for verification. It is also possible to verify the e-stamp via Adobe.

To open the degree certificate correctly, you must first download it on your computer and then open it with a PDF reader. If you try with a PDF editor, there is a risk that you won't be able to open it because the document isn't allowed to be edited. Your degree certificate is not password protected. If your computer still asks for a password, you are using the wrong type of program. If so, try a PDF reader instead. PDF readers can be downloaded for free from the internet.

Doctoral students will continue to receive their degree certificates in paper form. When a degree is issued, the degree certificate is sent by mail to the postal address in Ladok.

How to apply for the degree certificate:
Log in via hv.se/student, My page/My studies and follow the instructions. You will find a short instructional film here.

If you don´t have access to your account you can apply via form at the bottom of this page.

Diploma Supplement

Attached to the degree certificate you will also receive a document in English called a Diploma Supplement. The Diploma Supplement (DS), following an established European template, provides a standardized description of the level, context, content and status of the studies pursued and successfully completed by the graduate.

The purpose of the Diploma Supplement is to make it easier for foreign employers and universities to understand how the Swedish courses, programmes and qualifications correspond to equivalents in their own countries. This will in turn make working and studying abroad less complicated for Swedish students. The Diploma Supplement is a supplement to, not a substitute for, the degree certificate. The degree certificate and the diploma supplement can only be awarded once.
